It's been almost 5 years since my cancer surgery. I saw a blood drive sign today, and decided to give it a go. I read on the red cross site a while ago that they will take you after only one year, but I didn't trust it, plus I was having a hard time getting a handle on my dietary issues, I thought maybe I needed all my blood. But, I felt pretty good today, so off I went. On my bicycle no less, it being 1.5 miles from my house.

All went well, and so here I am back home having another snack and drink. Maybe I'll go back to giving regularly. It even says there's no age upper limit!

It pisses me off that the feds still disallow any donation by gay men unless they've been celibate for a year. That makes no sense to me at all. Why isn't the "celibate for 12 months" applied to all groups? A married woman might think that she's in a monogamous relationship, and her husband could be out sharing needles and having unprotected sex. How is that any safer than a gay man who gets tested for HIV on a regular basis?
