Arisia is kind of too long for me. I enjoy the masquerade, and I enjoy various other evening activities, but it's all fairly optional. I went to The Post-Meridian Radio Players gender-swapped Star Trek thing for the first time, and it was fun. I went to the Ignoble event, which is kind of random, but entertaining.

I hardly bought anything at the dealer's room; the books I want next mostly are in some random series that's not currently popular so I'll need an online used bookseller. I'm vaguely interested in garb, but it's all so very expensive. I bought one pair of earrings. I should have thought about earrings earlier and made a list of the colors I'm missing. Periodically I discover I'm wearing some color I just don't have any earrings to match. I fixed a couple of these last year, but there are still some.

I'm kind of done with panels. I've been going to cons since 1980, panels are mostly the same. Yeah, sometimes there's a fresh take on something, but mostly, not.

I should have gone to more filk. The pirate song thing was really fun.

But Perry really wants to go, cuz it's 72 hours of board games. So I volunteer, which fills up some of the otherwise somewhat empty hours. And gets me a free membership, hm, which maybe I don't care much about... It's only saving $40ish over year-ahead registration. The real expense is the hotel room. $200/room/night, and most of us don't share a bed well, so we're not maxing out our rooms, thus a higher per-person cost. Food at the convention was supposed to be better this year, but it wasn't. Yeah, there was a food court 2 blocks away, but the past couple years there were food trucks right outside the door.

Working coat check was more fun than working the gaming room. The gaming scheduling was more chaotic than last year, probably due to the shakeup in management. Some things were improved, particularly the game check-out process.

Anyway, it was OK, but it was expensive. I'll go next year, and I'll probably volunteer. I need to figure out a way to have more fun myself.

One thing I did was to go to the Women's March, since we were at the Park Plaza, very near Boston Common. Saw lots of signs, some of them excellent. And at Arisia, I was given a small knitted owl by someone who had dozens she was giving away. I picked mine for the top color.

Speaking of cats, the real cat is still alive. She ate a little this morning. I haven't called the vet yet.
