This will be #9 it appears.

I'm going to Boston Pride/No Kings, wearing rainbow and carrying protest signs. I re-dyed my hair for the event.

Not really sure how the thing is going to play out, or how long I'll end up staying in a train arrives at 11 AM at Back Bay (I will go out the Clarendon exit). This will put me right on the parade route, where I will watch for a while and then wander over to the Common and see what's up in the protest division. In theory I'm meeting Jocelyn at Back Bay. "Rain mostly before 10 AM", so perhaps we won't even get rained on, or not much.

There are a whole ton of smaller events focusing on the "no kings" aspect closer to the house, and the rest of my family is deciding which of those to go to, if any. I think it's useful to have some smaller events, but there seem to be too many.

It's time for red white and blue hair again. Actually would be better if I did this in a few weeks for July 4, but if I do that then my hair will still be running pink in the shower and on the towel when I am traveling and staying with people and in hotels. So, we get our red white and blue early. I used a different dye, but the blue is still washing out a lot quicker than the red.

I have chewed on my fingernails for decades. A small number of years ago I learned that if I paint them, then I chew on them less, because I like the feel of the paint and so I pat them instead of chewing them some of the time. This is better for my cuticles, because often when you have chewed your nails down to the quick, you start in on your cuticles, and they get ragged and disgusting. (I admit, it is a disgusting habit.) The painting is all my mother's doing – she used to make me take her to the nail salon.

Anyway, I've been painting my fingernails periodically since I learned this. Mostly I paint them in clear, because I am hard on my fingers, not just chewing, and so they chip, and clear does not show so much.

In a twist of fate, we have acquired glow-in-the-dark fingernail polish. Naturally, when it came time to paint my fingers, I had to try this.

It works! The only person who sees it is me. So it's a little weird. Sometimes I forget I've done it, and then I walk down a dark hallway and discover that there are these little glowing blobs on the ends of my fingers!

I don't think I'll do it again; it's been chipping, and so now I don't have any on my index fingers, so there are fewer glowing blobs, some of them are much fainter. So, next time it will just be clear again.

So little while ago I dyed one third of my hair the usual red/pink/purple ("every shower an adventure"). My plan worked, and when I braided it, one strand was pink. So, the other day I tried to make another strand a different color. I used some leftover blue that hadn't been very dramatic, and so it isn't very dramatic, but it kind of did work.

I noticed a year or so ago that my hair seem to be longer than it had been before that. I last cut it in 1993, when I had about 8 inches whacked off, thinking that it would grow longer because I had removed the split ends. But, this didn't actually happen, and it settled at a slightly shorter length where it remained for the next two decades.

Maybe menopause is good for hair? You wouldn't think so – the tradition is that old women have thin hair.

Anyway, I've been encouraging hair growth by braiding it more, rather than just sticking it in a ponytail. This does two things: keeps it from flying around and getting tangled and breaking during later brushing, and also the hair tie ends up in a slightly different place each time, so it reduces the breaking at a single place. And, it seems like it's grown another inch. It's a little hard to tell, because the ends are kind of ragged. Who woulda thunk?

Sometimes I'm a little concerned that if something is growing quickly in your body, something else might be growing quickly in your body that you don't want. Let's hope it's not that.

I dyed half my hair again - the same red I've been using. When I washed my hair the first time an interesting thing happened: I have also been painting my fingernails with clear, because it turns out I will chew on them a little less if they are painted, but when the paint chips, if it is colored, it looks terrible. So, I washed my hair when my fingers had recently been painted, and the clear paint picked up a little of the red hair dye, so I have three fingers with a pink tinge to them. Now I have to decide if I need to wash my hair with my hands crossed over or something to even up, or if I will revel in the asymmetry on my fingers as well as my hair.

I also ordered new glasses the other day. I've been usually trying to get some neutral frame color like dark brown or black, but this time I went with a deep maroon, which is approximately the same color as my hair ends up fading to after a few weeks. So, I guess I might stick with this hair thing; I don't know. But deep maroon is not flashy, so I think it will be unobtrusive even if my hair doesn't match.

Jocelyn had it all chopped off. I mean, there's just half an inch on top, fading to zero at collar-line. Reason: Circus. She's been doing partner acro and her partner has been stepping on her hair.

It looks cute.
