I took Perry to college this afternoon. We briefly toyed with taking the commuter rail, but he really did have a lot of stuff so we took the car. We arrived at our assigned move-in time, he checked in, got his Covid test, got his ID and keys, and we found his dorm.

He's in basically an apartment building, although it only has students, and has resident assistants and so forth on each floor. It's a three-bedroom unit with a nice sized living room, a small kitchen, a bathroom area that has two sinks in an open area off the hall, and off that open area are two little rooms each with a toilet and shower. Each bedroom has two beds, so it's a six person unit.

We turned out to be the first to arrive. I made his bed, and helped put cleaning supplies in good places in the kitchen and bathroom (there had been a packing list including such things for the people in these apartments) while he unpacked clothing into the provided dresser and computer onto the provided desk.

They kind of dropped the ball with sophomores who hadn't been on campus before, I think. There should have been more orientation type stuff, IMHO. Anyway, we kind of scratched our heads, realized he didn't know how to get on Wi-Fi, so off we went to an information desk they had set up in a courtyard, and then I just left, because there wasn't really anything more for me to do. But there wasn't anything for him to do until dinner. So I guess he hung out in his room and played on the Internet once he got connected. He did email me and tell me that he had successfully had pizza for dinner at the dining hall, and one of his roommates had arrived (his actual roommate in his actual room), and all was well.

The only thing he seems to have forgotten is a charger for his phone, but it's possible that's going to be irrelevant because he might need to have a smart phone in order to run some Covid testing app. For the test today, we put the app on my phone, so he could just go and do it without fussing. Anyway, he'll have to figure out what kind of smart phone to buy and how to buy it all by himself. He's a big boy now!

Meanwhile, Jocelyn calls us with announcements like "my bicycle pedal fell off, what do I do now?" (Put it back on?) Anyway, I don't know whether she got it fixed, because the bus arrived just to she was on the phone and she hung up and got on the bus with her bicycle. That was three hours ago.
