I must be all Rusty
Dec. 28th, 2021 08:04 pmSo I tried to give blood a few weeks ago and they sent me home due to lack of iron. I took iron pills for three weeks, and went back, and they still sent me home today. I even got the same iron readings as last time (11.6). So, maybe it takes more than 2-3 weeks like the Internet said, or maybe I'm doing something that is making the iron pills not work (I am carefully taking them hours away from my calcium pill, because I know they interact badly but maybe there is something else).
Anyway, it was also a comedy of errors getting there. I had to stop for an errand on the way, which took a few minutes longer than I expected, so I was already running a little late. When I made the appointment I checked where the blood drive was, and "I know how to get there". So, I headed off after my errand and discovered that I didn't see the VFW post I expected to see. So I pulled over to get out my phone. Not found. Maybe still at home? Anyway, no joy there. But, I had my tablet because I have been reading an e-book. However, it only does Wi-Fi, not cell network. There was a Target half a mile behind me, so I turned around, went to Target, got on their Wi-Fi, and found out where the blood drive was. Turned out I was pretty close, and if I'd only just kept going for another half-mile, I would have found the place (a Masonic Lodge, not a VFW post, explaining why my morning double check of the location failed). However, by now I'm half an hour late. When I checked in their computer said "your appointment has passed", but the human was able to override that and get me in. But then the nurse sent me home. Bah.
