MORE winter fun!
Jan. 13th, 2025 08:00 pmNot being satisfied with a lovely cross-country ski over the weekend, I played hooky at work this afternoon and went to the local little bump (370 feet vertical drop!) and went downhill skiing. I would say "it was great", but really, it can't be great. It was pretty good though. The conditions were crunchy. Not exactly icy, though there were a couple of patches of glare ice, and one patch that seemed like it was ice cubes, which I guess are made from the grooming machine going over yesterday's glare ice. There are 2 runs that they make snow on coming down from the one real chair (in the unlikely event of enough natural snow, there are a couple of more runs). There is also a bunny area with a magic carpet and some very small chair.
I got there at 2 PM (they open at 1 but I was busy with lunch and meetings). It was nearly vacant. I could tell when school let out! But it never got busy enough to have a line while I was still there.
4 minutes up, 2 minutes down. 90 seconds down on the shorter, steeper run. I was there for about two hours. It was exercise. And fun. And it's seeming like I'm not going to be making a trip to the West Coast this winter, so I'm not going to get my "one day of skiing in the West". Who knows? I might do this again before the winter is up.
