I did it again
Nov. 7th, 2021 02:51 pmSo I always say, at the end of the season, "it is never a good idea to waterski in November".
But, this year is an exception. Just had a beautiful last run in 56° water, and 54° air. Completely flat water, nearly cloudless sky, and beautiful fall colors. (I was surprised the water hadn't dropped more given that we have now had two nights below freezing and several near freezing.)
This time, though, it really is the last run – that extra 2° since the previous time was noticeably colder on my feet. I was the only one skiing this time, so overall I was less cold at the end, since I went first last time, and so even though I was wearing a wetsuit, the cool air over an additional 20 minutes made me colder.
No pictures this time :-)
We have an appointment to get the boat winterized and "20 hour service" (we have about 11.5 hours) in two weeks. So we will leave it in the water until that Sunday, unless it looks like weather will be a real problem in which case we might do it earlier, and maybe run the motor enough to get the water pump to eject the last water to keep it from freezing before we actually take it to the shop that Tuesday. The reason it's better in the lake, is that it will take a long time before the lake gets down to freezing, and so there is no danger of motor damage, even if the air is below freezing. Which is not the case, if it's not in the water.
