I saw the Barbie movie. It was a little hard hitting on the "smash the patriarchy" message, but many things were spot on, and there were some fun parts where it poked fun at itself. So generally, a $12 well spent. There were maybe 15 other people in the theater, naturally my companion and I were the only ones wearing a mask in the entire multiplex.
At some point earlier I had considered going to see Oppenheimer, but on the day I had selected I was kind of tired and a three-hour movie was beyond my capabilities.
I was underwhelmed by pretty much all of the trailers for other movies. Maybe I'll go see Wonka. (But the preview said "by the creators of Harry Potter" – does that mean that it's part of the Harry Potter franchise and so I should avoid it if I want to be trans supporting?)

Date: 2023-08-15 07:38 pm (UTC)Oppenheimer isn't an easy movie, but I think it's a good one for people to see. My suggestion is to *not* see the show at night if you can avoid it. Leaving the movie and then going to sleep soon afterwards wouldn't be conducive to getting a peaceful night's sleep. Our showing was at 11:30AM or such, so after the movie, we walked out into sunshine and then had several hours before going to bed. That helped me process and not be too depressed before going to sleep.
