Emergency trip to CA

My mother had a minor stroke yesterday. I'm flying out tomorrow. Surprisingly there were tickets available with nice itineraries and not ruinous prices. I only booked a one-way; not sure how long I'll be staying there, and how difficult it will be to get return tickets. I'll have thanksgiving with my stepfather's nephew's family (which is where they were planning to go). My mom is still in the hospital but may be released by the time I get there, though there is also talk of a rehab facility for physical therapy, so she may not get to come home for a little while.
