First world problems
May. 20th, 2021 06:00 pmMy boat died a while ago. It has a lot of problems – the motor is dead, and the flooring is starting to rot , and there's some rub rail on the outside which is peeling off, and it just needs a lot of work. And it's a 50-year-old hull.
It turns out that the hull design, a tri-hull, is really awesome for waterskiing. It's not so good for riding around in waves, because it pounds like crazy. So they were only made between 1970 and 1990, which means that if we want one, we're talking about a minimum of 30 years old boat. Which is okay, because after all, as long as it doesn't have a hole in it, it'll float.
So we put a watch on tri-hull on craigslist. A few have come up, 100 miles away, but we're willing to travel. The first one we missed because we were slow about deciding and it had been sold. The second one, the guy was an asshole, and after making an arrangement with us, sold it to somebody else, which we found out about because we called him to say "are we all set for us to pick up the boat tomorrow", and it's a good thing we did because otherwise we would have driven 100 miles for no good reason and been really mad instead only slightly mad. The next one, we called within an hour, but I guess he sold it to somebody else because he didn't call us back.
The thing that makes this annoying is that our neighbor bought a worse boat (larger, less good hull design), but still, a boat. It used to be, that we just gave a key to our neighbor, and he used our boat whenever he wanted. So, we thought maybe there would be a reciprocal arrangement, but it turns out that, no, he's not willing to share.
So, I'm just sitting here being depressed that I don't have a boat, it's hard to get a boat, and my neighbor won't share.
