bugs and pictures
Aug. 25th, 2023 08:45 pmIn Europe, they think they don't need air conditioning. At least they make it so your hotel room windows open very well and wide, which makes it somewhat tolerable after the sun has gone down. Fortunately we didn't have to be up early, so we could stay up late and let the room cool off.
Somehow they haven't gotten the news about putting screens on your windows. Now, they don't have the number of bugs that we have here in New England; if you left that many windows open here, your room would be mobbed with bugs of all nature. In fact we only got a few bugs, but they did bite me. I kind of felt like I had enough mosquito bites that I could of been camping… I suppose perhaps I was, with the windows open like that.
The last night that we were there, we had an unfortunate bug come in. It was an extremely large bee, which buzzed loudly and flew quickly all around the room, and was very alarming. It kept flying out and then back in before we could get the windows closed. It was probably 45 minutes before we had managed to close the windows when it was outside, and be certain of that fact. Sadly, then it warmed up in the room so it was a little sweaty for sleeping. I'm glad it was the last night, because I wouldn't have been willing to open the windows again, and then it would've been really unpleasant.
Note to Europe: air-conditioning or screens!
I didn't take very many pictures. Here is one of that extremely cute funicular, and also one of some old-style buildings in Frankfurt.
