The boat is sick again

nosrednaydujSo we went (tried to) waterskiing yesterday. Ken got up, but it was a little slow, and after somewhat less than a mile it decided to just quit. Fortunately, he knew that when this kind of thing happens, you hang onto the rope, rather than letting go, so that the people in the boat can pull you to the boat, in case it never starts again. We also decided his ride was over, even if he wasn't really done.
It did start again, and so I got in the water and we tried pulling me. Indeed, it was a little slow, and after somewhat less time than he had gotten, it quit. (Fortunately I know etc.) So we tried picking me up again, and I got a yet shorter ride before the boat quit. So, we decided I was done.
We continued to have somewhat of a trouble, getting home. We did eventually get home, but we were also having trouble getting it to go at the beginning without stalling.
We were almost out of gas, or at least I thought so, so I got some new gas today (riding my bicycle to the gas station with the tank in the trailer), but that did not seem to help. We thought maybe it was one of the connectors to the gas line letting air in (it was not letting gas out, that part we could tell), so we took it off and reattached it with Teflon tape, but that did not help.
So, I guess we will call boat places on Monday. It is somewhat annoying because it is our plan to repower this boat and throw out this motor, so we do not wish to spend a lot of money, but if we could get another month out of it, that would be good. We do often ski through September. October is getting pretty cold even with a wetsuit – because you have to have bare feet. In younger times, I have in fact skied in November, but it is always a mistake, so I just say no to November and most of October.
The other sad-too-bad is that we are having houseguests next week, and this means we will not be able to tow them around behind the boat. And it will be nice and calm, so the sailboat will not be useful. So it will just be canoes and swimming.
